The then Drive time host and now mid – morning show host on Emark 97.7 Fm, Bight Awuku popularly known as DJ Mix (The Kofcity mayor) has expressed his bliss on the performance of Eastern region presenters currently. He voiced this in a one on one discussion with DJ Flow (the fashionista DJ) on Total Showbiz last Saturday, October 24, 2020.
“Eastern region presenters are now doing their best and I think they are coming to the lime light” he answered this to a question from the host “How do you now see Eastern Media nowadays?” The Kofcity mayor explained further that, the Eastern media performance currently has made 80% of the audiophiles are now tuning in and listening to the Eastern region radio stations as compared to previous where most heed to Accra radio stations.
Mr. Awuku narrated how he started his carrier as a presenter/Journalist from Eastern Fm about twenty years ago to Emak fm where he currently works. He said DJ Black was his mentor so he worked harder to achieve his goals. He also made it known us that, aside Disc Jockeying (DJing) he is a very good radio technician. “I laid down the Emak fm studio machines” the Mayor said gallantly. In what makes him different from other presenters and Djs, he said, he monitors most radio stations in the region and outside before going on air and due to that, his playlist and the style of presentation makes him divergent from others.
“Because of this, about five radio stations including two from Koforidua contacted me for contract when I was off air on three months leave on Emark fm”
Dj Mix groomed many young presenters in the region who are now excelling in their media houses. Many musicians also got their benefits from the legend. “I was the first person to bring Koo Ntakra on air” the mayor confirmed.
Furthermore, DJ mix expressed his anxiety about the lack of unity among presenters in the region emphasising that, the only problem in the industry (the media) is lack of unity which existed from the antediluvian. He also said will never blame the industry players too much for the act but the monthly trifling wages paid by their employers. “If our earnings are gratified, I don’t think one will hate or jealous another” he added.
In conclusion, he advised the media personalities in the region to respect each other even to the amateur in order to create unity. He said unity will help the players (media) to set good agenda to the development of the region and the country at large.
